Srirangapatna : Mandya Lok Sabha constituency which stands distinct among the other Lok Sabha constituencies of the state, has some sort of star value. Here, it is the film stars who get more prominence rather than political parties. It is owing to this reason that Congress candidate Lucky Star Ramya was elected from here during the previous LS bye-polls.
The BJP which has so far not opened its account in this constituency, has this time planned to field a Super Star from this constituency with the hope to wrest it from the Congress.
Shilpa Shettar, wife of former CM Jagadish Shettar has informed that the party has decided to field Super Star Upendra from the constituency. She said with a pro-Modi wave across the state, the BJP hopes to win Mandya constituency this time by banking on the popularity of Upendra.
Though the names of H Honnappa, Ramalingaiah and Naganna are also being heard from the BJP, the party was more interested in fielding Upendra to give a tough fight to Ramya who is all likely to get a Congress ticket even this time. Shilpa Shettar said the party was holding talks with Upendra in this regard.
