Newskarnataka – Mysore
Mysore: Voting for the Lok Sabha elections was by and large peaceful in Mysore Parliamentary constituency on Thursday April 17. Voting which began at a slow pace initially, picked up by afternoon. Young voters and first timers also actively participated in the polling process, thanks to the several awareness drives initiated.
The administration had stepped up security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident. There was some confusion in one of the polling booths in Mysore town following protest by villagers who threatened to boycott elections opposing lack of basic amenities in their village. Officials who rushed to the spot later succeeded in convincing the villagers to exercise their franchise.
There is also information that several voters were deprived of the right to vote owing to some confusion in the voters’ list. There have even been reports of defective EVMs in some polling stations where the machinery were later replaced. In some places polling officials themselves repaired the defective EVMs.
