Karkala: Here is an instance which reveals how a project implemented without studying the pros and cons may prove dangerous.
The government department had not bothered much about the presence of a public well while developing the Padubidri-Karkala state highway. The well is located exactly adjacent to the road at the point where the historic St Lawrence Church Road links the Karkala State Highway.
Though the well is located in the area since years ago and is an abundant source of water, the commencement of the highway development works and even the raising of the road level here has left the embankment of the well and the road at the same level.
This in turn has posed problems to the vehicles as in the event of any vehicle veering to the road side it would land directly inside the well.
Locals feel there is a need to raise the embankment of the well to avert any danger.
