Udupi : Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency recorded 25 per cent voting where Karkala is leading with 31 per cent; Kundapur recorded 24 per cent; Udupi 22 per cent; Kaup 28 per cent and Byndoor 21 per cent. The records mentioned are till morning 11:30 a.am.
Polling begins in Udupi; Oscar, JP Hegde, Pejawar Seer, Sorake cast votes
Udupi :Polling for the Lok Sabha elections began in all the 1059 polling stations in all five assembly segments in Udupi-Chikmagalur Parliamentary constituency. The polling percentage as at 9.30 am is 7.25 percent in the constituency. Segment wise, Kaup registered 4.53 percent polling, Karkala-11.70 percent; Kundapura-8.86 percent and Byndoor percent.
Prominent among those who cast their votes early in the day are Union Minister Oscar Fernandes, Udupi Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo and Udupi District Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake.
Oscar and his wife Blossom exercised their franchise at Udupi Vivekananda Higher Primary School Ajjarakadu. Speaking to reporters present outside the booth, Oscar said the Congress had high chances of winning from the constituency.
Udupi Bishop cast his vote at TA Pai English Medium School.
Vinay Kumar Sorake along with his family exercised franchise at Udupi Girls’ School while Congress candidate Jayaprakash Hegde voted at the Girija Chandra Shekhar Higher Primary School, Koorgi in Kundapur.
Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt too exercised his franchise at North High School. Later speaking to reporters, he said the right candidate must come to power. He also appealed to everyone to cast their vote as every vote can make a difference.
District police have made elaborate security arrangements in the constituency. Men in uniform are seen everywhere to ensure free and fair polling.
