Udupi : Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA has been striving hard  to tackle the problem arising out of water shortage in the district.

He has already directed officials to dig bore wells in three water scarce areas under the limits of Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) and assured that measures  will be taken to distribute water through tankers until monsoon.

He convened a meeting here in this regard and said that borewells should be dug at Rajeev Nagar, Indira Nagar, and Duglipadavu Kukkikatte. The water from these borewells should be supplied by linking the pipeline (from the borewells) to the houses in these places, the MLA said.

In case there was shortage of water in the Baje Dam across the Swarna River the CMC should take steps to pump water from the big trenches  on the pathway of the river. The water should be pumped and made to flow towards Baje dam, he said.

Regarding tanker arrangements, he said it has been directed to prepare an action plan for tackling water scarcity at an emergency meeting of PDOs convened by the workforce committee at taluk office.
