Sumathi Prabhu Murder case; Police arrests three

Krishnapur: The Suratkal Police have arrested three persons in connection with the murder, 62-year-old Sumathi Prabhu who was killed on February 8 night, in Kulai, Krishnapur.

The accused have been identified as residents of 30-year-old Shivram who had been Sumathi’s tenant seven years ago along with Bahadur Singh alias Bhaiyya and 22-year-old Shaan Nawaaz.

Both Shivram and Bahadur are residents of Dataka, Kapoor Muluka of Bayana Taluk in Bharatpur district of Rajsathan and Shaan Nawaaz is a resident of Amaroha district in Uttar Pradesh.

The incident

Sumathi Prabhu was found murdered on February 8 at her residence in Vidyanagar, near Koddabbu daivasthana, Kulai-Hosbettu Green Pitch road. The trio had decamped with gold worth several lacs after committing the murder.

Sumathi Prabhu was staying alone in her house and had a habit of wearing lot of gold. The accused Shivram who was a tenant, knew of this and wanted to get hold of the gold.

On February 8 at around 1.30 pm the accused came to Sumathi’s house to talk about renting house and to pay advance money. They gained entry into the house through the kitchen door which was kept open by Sumathi. When the accused entered the house Sumathi was watching Television. The accused slashed her throat and decamped with gold worth lacs of money.

As Sumathi had several other tenants the Police got clue of Shivram during investigations.
The truth came out during the interrogation. The gold robbed was also handed over to the Police by the accused.

The investigations was carried out by Mangalore city police commissioner Hitendra, ACP Ravi Kumar, Suratkal station inspector Nataraj and several other officers.

The Loner – Sumathi

According to locals the 62-year -old lady was a loner and liked living alone in the house. Sumathi Prabhu who had lost her husband (Damodar Prabhu) two years ago was staying alone in her house at Kulai.

Her three children were staying in separate houses after marriage. Though her children had requested her to stay with them she had refused.
