Pre-poll procedures underway in city

Mangalore : Election duty staff are getting ready to proceed to the polling stations allotted to them  for the April 17  Lok Sabha elections.

Mustering procedure and the process of allotment  of polling stations to election officials began at the Canara School at Mannagudda on Wednesday April 16. Earlier all booth level officers, presiding officers and assistant presiding officers reported to the sector officers in the morning. The Polling officers will be taking the EVMs along with them to the polling stations. A sector officer will have to oversee 30 to 40 polling stations and  will also have an extra EVM which will come in handy in the event of the EVM of any polling station under him goes out of order. A few stand by personnel have also been appointed just in case of emergency or if any election duty staff falls sick.

Highly sensitive polling stations will have special police force to ensure there is no untoward incident. Polling booths in Naxal hit areas will be guarded by the Kerala Armed Police Force personnel.

Earlier Mangalore Police Commissioner R Hithendra has informed that  a total of 62 polling booths are identified as  Naxal affected in the DK police limits. He said 122 booths have been identified as highly sensitive, 227 as sensitive and 553 as common booths.
