Mangalore: Senior Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary has spoken about an alternative for the proposed Netravathi River Diversion Project or Yettinahole Project.
Addressing a press meet at the District Congress Office on Wednesday, January 29 to voice his protest against the Project, Poojari said that instead of the Netravati River diversion, K.R.Pura’s Yele Mallappa reservoir can be pumped to Palar reservoir in Kolar through 32 km long pipeline to facilitate drinking water for the people of Kolar district. Poojari also said such a project is already on the anvil.
Poojary further said that the project will cost Rs 230 crore and does not require any land acquisition for laying the pipeline. The report to be prepared under the guidance of Kolar District Minister UT Khader and Deputy Commissioner will be submitted to the Chief Minister as soon it is completed and will be implemented with his approval, Poojari added
Poojari while pointing out at the problems which the proposed Netravathi Diversion Project would crop up, urged the government to give up such a dangerous project.
