Mobile Konkani Bazaar arrives at Mangalore

Mangalore: Under the initiative of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy at ‘Swarna Kala Mantapa’ in Kadri Park, renowned Konkani singer Vishwas Rebimbus, on Tuesday May 3, inaugurated the Mobile Konkani Bazaar, a vehicle to sell Konkani books and CD’s.

After the inaugural Vishwas Rebimbus said that the rich Konkani literature should be retained to next generation, thus such an instigation has been made.

Though it can be achieved through online for some extent, common reader may not be able to purchase books through online. Mobile Konkani Bazaar is a great opportunity for literature lovers and also a big step towards development of the language.

Karnataka Tulu Academy President Janaki Brahmavara released ‘Asthamana,’ a Konkani novel by K Sharada Bhat.

In her speech, Janaki Brahmavara said that increasing co-ordination between three language academies is a good sign. Beary and Konkani Sahitya Academies have taken steps in this regard and Tulu Sahitya Academy will continue the good trend, she said. 

Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy President Mohammed Haneef released ‘Pushpamaal,’ a collection of poems penned by Dr Varija Neerebail.

Mohammed Haneef said that by these kind of programmes, people get an opportunity to understand three languages- Konkani, Beary and Tulu.

It helps to know about literature. On Mobile Konkani Bazaar, he said that it is a good effort to reach the readers who may not go in search of books, otherwise.  

Language unanimity

Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy President Roy Castelino stressed the need of developing language unanimity in coastal Karnataka.

Meanwhile, he said that Mobile Konkani Bazaar has already proved a successful idea.

The mobile shop which was inaugurated by Minister for Kannada and Culture Umashri in Bangalore, on May 24, has already registered a sale worth Rs one lakh.

In the city, Rs 1.45 lakh has been saved for the project, he said.

Felicitations

Karnataka Tulu Academy President Janaki Brahmavara and Beary Sahitya Academy President Mohammed Haneef were honoured on the occasion.

Jonisha Lobo of Mulki and Daphney Coelho from Kuloor were felicitated for scoring highest marks in Konkani in SSLC examination.    

Konkani Sahitya Academy Registrar Devadas Pai, Member Lawrence D’Souza, Victor Mathias and others were present.
