Mangalore: State Minister for Information, Basic Infrastructure and Haj Roshan Baig has directed officials to hold talks with private airline operators with an objective to increase domestic flights to various parts of the nation from Mangalore Airport.
He was speaking after interacting with airport officials on the various developmental works at the airport on Monday May 26. He told the Mangalore Airport director to evince interested in increasing domestic flights particularly owing to heavy passenger traffic on some routes including Mangalore-Bangalore sector. Roshan Baig said a new exit road from the Airport is being constructed at a cost of Rs 11 crore through KRDCL and added the full grant has been released.
Radhakrishnan, Director of Mangalore Airport who spoke said developmental works worth nearly Rs 100 crore are being undertaken at the airport at present. He also opined that more private sector airlines may take interest in operating flights from Mangalore if the state government reduces the VAT on air fuel.
Sheikh Latif, Chief Executive Officer of Karnataka Haj Committee, drew the attention of the minister towards the demand for direct flight services between Mangalore and Haj. He said a land for Haj Bhavan has been identified and a compound wall is being constructed.
Dr Prashanth, Assistant Commissioner, Sabir Ahmed, District Minorities Welfare officer and others were present.
