Udupi :Member of Human rights commission, Meera Saxena said children should be taught human rights including about the environment, and pollution issues at the school level.
She was addressing the gathering after inaugurating a programme organised at the Townhall. She inaugurated the National Union of the Human Rights Council, the awarding ceremony of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district, Manavatha Seva Ratna Puraskar Award and a Human Rights Campaign by lighting the lamp.
“Karnataka state is recognised all over India because of IT BT sector but lacks social guidelines. In the rural areas girls do not have toilets. It is due to discrimination in development, she said. Even the common man should be educated about human rights, and for this self help organisations should come forward.” she urged.
Psychotherapist Dr P V Bhandary, senior writer and retired teacher Ambatanaya Mudrady and Udupi district Additional Superintendent of Police Santhosh Kumar were awarded with the Manavatha Seva Ratna Puraskar Award.
National Federation of Human Rights Council District President Udaya Kumar Shetty presided over the function.
Udupi DC Dr Muddu Mohan, Foundation for Human Rights Udupi president Dr Ravendranath Shanubhog, Parishad State president Robert D’Souza, State women’s division president Mamatha Balaji, State general Secretory Dayanand G Shetty, JCI India Foundation Director Y Sukumar, Rotary district governor Dr S Bhaskar, Suresh Prabhu and many others were present.
