Gory mishap at Gurupur leaves 2 dead

Bajpe : A gory mishap reported from Gurupur in the outskirts of the city on Wednesday April 16 has left two persons including a two and a half year old girl dead. Two others were injured, one of them critically in the mishap.

The deceased are Harshitha and Babu (18). Harshitha’s mother Jaswindar (32) and father Deepak (40) were injured in the mishap, Jaswindar has sustained critical injuries while Deepak is said to be out of danger.

The injured couple are from Delhi. Deepak was police personnel on duty at the Mangalore airport. His Pulsar bike had Uttarkhand (UK 08 N 7308) registration. It is learnt, Deepak had recently brought his family from Delhi and was staying in a rented house at Kenjar. Another deceased Babu was a pedestrian.

The mishap took place when the bike  in which the family was travelling  had stopped at Gurupur junction along with a Bolero vehicle to give way for an election duty bus which was taking a reverse. However, a speeding sand tipper (KA 19 A 3395) named Navaratna.  hit the Bolero and bike and then crushed to death a pedestrian Babu. It is learnt, even Harshitha who was in the bike, died on the spot.

The tipper driver though tried to escape, locals gave his vehicle a chase and caught him near Vamanjoor. Bajpe police have registered a case.
