Moodbidri : The Padumarnadu Gram Panchayat in Moodbidri has invited the ire of the villagers for its apathy towards the demand to repair the road from the National Highway to the Panchayat office.
The about 2 km stretch of road from Bannadka on the Mangalore-Karkala NH to the Acharakatte is in a state of disrepair and is dotted with potholes which are posing a great risk to the lives of motorists particularly the two-wheeler riders.
There have been several occasions when vehicles have toppled here, but the authorities have remained apathetic. Even autorickshaw drivers hesitate to take passengers on this bad stretch of road. Travelling on the road devoid of street lights too has become nightmarish particularly during evening hours.
Villagers say let alone an appeal to the Gram Panchayat, even a memorandum to the Taluk Panchayat has fallen on deaf ears.
They are now running out of patience and have warned of locking up the Panchayat office if the panchayat failed to respond to the demands.
Madhava, an autorickshaw driver states how the stretch of road which can be travelled within 5 minutes otherwise, now takes half an hour. More than spending on fuel, we have to spend on spare parts which often give trouble due to the bad road, he points out.
