Mysore: In the wake of several cases of drunken driving resulting in accidents, the Mysore City Police Commissioner has recommended to the Regional Transport officials to cancel the driving licence of those who are trapped during drunken driving.
City Police Commissioner MA Saleem said a person who is caught while driving in a drunken state for the first time will face suspension of his driving licence while his driving licence will be cancelled permanently if he is caught for the second time.
Saleem was speaking after distributing display cards to autorickshaw drivers at his office on Wednesday April 23.
He said 4,4421 cases of drunken driving were registered last year and the driving licence of 105 persons cancelled. The number has seen a spurt in the first four months of 2014, he said.
He said putting up of display cards giving details is mandatory for autorickshaw drivers. Such cards will avoid several crimes and also ensure safety of passengers he said.
He said two cases of cricket betting have been registered so far.
DCP Kala Krishnaswamy, Traffic ACP Prabhaker Baarke and others were present.
