Dakshina Kannada gears up for LS polls

Mangalore : Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim has informed that all measures are in place to conduct free and fair elections in Dakshina Kannada district.

Addressing a meeting held at his office, the Deputy Commissioner said necessary election duty staff have been appointed and a stand-by EVM machine will be kept in the event of any technical snag in the EVM that is being used.

He said talks have been held with Kasargod DC and the border areas will be sealed. All vehicles proceeding on the inter-state route will be checked, he said.

The DC informed that 8108 staff will be on duty in 1766 polling stations in the district and that 257 buses, 20 mini buses, 135 maxi cabs and 123 jeeps will be used for election duty.

He informed that he percentage of polling will be available at around 8 pm on the election duty and that the percentage of polling will be mentioned on hourly basis outside polling stations.

Dr SD Sharanappa, District Superintendent of Police said 2500 police personnel will be on election duty and combing operations in 62 polling booth limits in Naxal affected areas will be done.

The SP also informed that 17 check posts have been opened and 111 sector mobile squads are operative. A total of 56 CC cameras have been fixed in various areas including sensitive places, he said.

Sadashiva Prabhu, Additional DC, Shanadi Ajith Kumar Hegde, MCC Commissioner and others were present.
