Biker fatally knocked down by pick-up truck

Kundapur: An accident between a bike and a pickup truck near Surgeon Hospital at Hangalur NH 66 claimed the life of the biker on Sunday April 20. The bike rider died on the spot died due to excessive bleeding.

The deceased has been identified as 39-year-old Chandrashekhar Shetty a resident of Sunnari village in the taluk. He used work as a waiter at in Foodmark Bar and Restaurant located at Basrur Junction. It is learnt that the accident occurred while he was returning home on his Yamaha motor bike after completing his duty.

The pickup truck was carrying air-conditioner spare parts to a resort in Kerala from Karwar when the accident occurred. Shetty is survived by mother, wife, and two children.

 Immediately after coming to know of the accident, Udupi deputy superintendent of police, Prabhudev Mane, and local police circle inspector, P M Diwakar, rushed to the spot. The 108 ambulance of the government did not arrive at the spot even  30 minutes after it was informed. After a long wait,the policemen had to hire an ambulance belonging to a private hospital here. The government ambulance arrived just after the body was  shifted to the hospital. The delayed arrival of the ambulance infuriated the locals who took the ambulance staff to task.
