Karkala: It has come to light of late that one of the cattle trafficker who had escaped when the ANF personnel opened fire at Tanikodu check post near Shringeri on April 19, Saturday, was guilty in the case of the attempt on the life of a Karkala rural police personnel and had even undergone imprisonment.
It may be mentioned here that if Kabeer of Jokatte was killed in the firing when the cattle transporting vehicle did not stop at the check post as per instructions.Others namely Rafique, Sarfaraz and Pramod, the driver had managed to escape.
It is learnt Pramod Poojari is the son of Jokatte Madhava Poojary and was an accused in the case of attempt to kill a head constable of Karkala rural police station.
The incident had taken place during the wee hours of September 9, 2009. When the head constable who was on night duty was checking vehicles at the Lemina Cross-Parappady, a cattle trafficking vehicle had tried to kill him by trying to run the vehicle over him.
Pramod who was arrested in the case, had during interrogations revealed that he used to get Rs 2000 per load of cattle transportation and that he did this only thrice a week, that too during night time.
The investigation officer Sandesh who had registered a case against Pramod and Husman had filed the charge sheet and the Udupi District Fast Track Court had even held the two guilty.
Did Pramod try to resort to a similar tactic when the ANF tried to stop their vehicle near Shringeri? Questions persist.
