Surathkal: A 7-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 70-year-old man at Koorikatta on Sunday June 15.
The accused has been identified as 70-year-old Hunumanthappa, a resident of Kolar. He works as a daily wage labourer in the city as well as owns 6 houses in the locality that he has rented out.
The girl that was assaulted stays in one of these houses.
According to the Panambur police, on Sunday Hunumanthappa took the girl to his house and tried to molest her, when she raised an alarm. The neighbours rushed to her aid and thrashed Hunumanthappa. However when Hunumanthappa tried to escape, he fell and suffered injuries on his head.
A case has been registered at Panambur police station by the mother of the victim. The police are investigating.
