Scribes seek protection to Suvarna reporter over threat calls

Mangalore: Journalists from Mangalore have urged Deputy Commissioner A.B Ibrahim to initiate action against those responsible for threatening  Suvarna channel reporter  over the channel flashing news regarding the alleged phone calls which Dakshina Kannada MP and BJP candidate Nalin Kumar Kateel made to a  woman. They met the DC and submitted a memorandum to him in his regard on Wednesday April 16 and sought protection to the journalist Sukesh Kumar.

Sukesh  is also learnt to have received threats on social media like Face Book and Whatsapp. Sources also said some people even telephoned Sukesh and threatened him.

It all began after independent candidate from DK constituency Sudatt Jain released a press communiqué on Tuesday April 15 stating that the MP had  made nearly

3,742 phone calls to a woman. Jain also said the MP made the calls  between August 1, 2011 and July 2012 and between November 2012 and October 2013.

Jain said the call details have been recorded in a CD format and a request has been made to the authorities to conduct a probe.

Soon after Suvarna channel and other media, both print and electronic flashed news regarding the issue.

Suvarna channel reporter Sukesh Kumar has also lodged a written police complaint.

The scribes have o forwarded a copy of the complaint to the DCP.
