Mangalore : Dakshina Kannada MP who has urged the state government to entrust the Kabeer encounter case near Shringeri to the CBI to ensure a fair probe, has at the same time said it was not advisable on the part of the state government and other political parties to mix religion with politics over the issue.

Nalin said there was a need for the state government to function in such a way that it does not demoralise the Anti Naxal Force which has been constantly striving to tackle the Naxal menace.

Referring to the Rs 10 lakh compensation announced to Kabeer family by the Government, Nalin also demanded compensation even to the families of two students who met a watery grave during the Avabhrita Savari of Puttur Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple. It is not proper for the government to view accidents from a religious angle, he said.

MLA Sunil Kumar against compensation to Kabeer family : Meanwhile, Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar has in a letter to State Home Minister KJ George said it was not proper on the part of the government to grant a compensation of Rs 5 to Rs 10 lakhs to the family of Kabeer who was killed in a shoot-out by ANF personnel while cattle smuggling at Tanikodu check post near Shringeri. He, in the letter has also expressed displeasure over a CID probe into the case.

He said in the Shringeri case, the Mahindra pick-up vehicles in which Kabeer and others were travelling had over 22 cattle crammed inside it. It is not proper to give a communal colour to the incident, Sunil Kumar said and urged the government to initiate stern action against cattle smuggling and cattle slaughter.
