Almuftah wins 5th Karnataka Cup Cricket Trophy

Qatar: Almuftah Qatar turned to be the real champions by defeating their opponent Tuskers and reigned supreme at the 5th Karnataka Cup soft ball flood light Cricket Tournament organized by Karnataka Sangha Qatar (KSQ) at the old Ideal Indian School grounds here on Thursday April 17 evening.

Subramaniam Badrinath who was a captain of Tamilnadu Ranaji Team and middle order batsman of IPL & ODI was guest of honor for this year’s event.

The final of 5th Karnataka Cup Cricket Trophy match was played between Tuskars V/S Al Muftah; Tuskars won the toss and elected to field first. Al Muftah batsmen Tanveer scored 33 Runs with help of one six and 4 boundaries which led the team to put up a score of 93 in 12 over.  Chasing a target Tuskars manage to score 89 runs in 12 over wherein they lost the match by 4 runs.

Almuftah won the championship trophy and Tuskers became the Runner Up. The crucial match was witnessed by more than 500 cricket lovers on pleasant Thursday evening. The spectacular line of procession held with camels, Harley Davidson bikers, Cheer girls following with guest of honors.

KSQ president Deepak Shetty escorted the Chief Guest Suneel Thapliyal head of Consular Service and Guest of honour Subramaniam Badrinath to the dais.

VS Mannangi GM of Almuftah and former president of KSQ, Guest of honour David Dougan Head of global governance Doha Bank, Kareem Abdulla ICBF President, Girish Kumar ICC acting President, Event Sponsor GHAZI MD of ALMA, Satish executive manager of QDC,Rony Paul CEO of Petrofac, KC Verghese, Tourmament Coordinator Dr. Sanjay Kudari, General Secretary Mahesh Gowda, Vice President Nageshwar  Rao & Sports Secretary Anil Boloor were present on the dais.

While welcoming the guests, KSQ president Deepak Shetty thanked all those who supported in organizing the event. He specifically remembered the contribution of M Chidanand Naik-GM of M Pallonji for his contribution in organizing this tournament over the years. KSQ former president Arun Kumar briefly introduced personal life of Subramaniam Badrinath to the audience.

Meanwhile Karnataka Sangha Qatar felicitates Subramaniam Badrinath with Mysore Peta and Shawl for his great contribution in game of cricket. Speaking on the occasion, Subramaniam Badrinath congratulated KSQ for its effort in keeping the game alive among expats living in Qatar and also thanked Karnataka Sangha Qatar for inviting and honoring him.

KSQ Sports secretary Anil Boloor proposed vote of thanks and coordinator Zafar Abbasi compered the event.

The tournament had started on April 5; around 12 teams participated in this prestigious tournament from last 2 weeks. The teams were, Hannan, Pallonji, Tulu Koota, Al Muftah,KMCA, TUSKARS, Qatar tech, Petrofac, Qatari Diar, Masraf Al Rayan, QDC, and Gulfar.  AlMuftah entered final after defeating Hanan and Tuskers entered into final after defeating Qatar Tech in semifinal round.

In the league matches “Man of the Match” title was won by Feroz of Pallonji, Zaheer of Masraf Al Rayan, Sandeep of Tulu Koota, Aswar Of Hanan,Amjad Of KMCA, Shameer of  Tuskar,Nayamat of Al Muftah,Aftab of Hanan,Zainu of Tuskar,Ashif of QDC,  Hakeem of Qatar Tech, Saleem of Tulu Koota, Intikhab of Al Muftah, Lasantha of Qatar Tech, Sajeer of Tuskar, Imran of Hanan. In the semi Final Niyamatha of Al Muftah and Rajneesh of Tuskar won the title.
On the other hand in the individual category Best batsman award was won by Niyamath of AlMuftah, Best bowler Rajneesh of Tuskar, Best all rounder Inthikab of AlMuftah, Best wicket keeper Imran of Hannan , Man of the match in final Tanveer of AlMuftah, Man of the tournament Prashanth of Tuskar. All the awardees honored with trophy and gifts.

Dr Sanjay Kudri and Executive committee coordinated the event. The umpires of the tournament were Furkhan, Hameed, Hassan and Riyas while the scorers were Amjad, Iqbal, Sunil Bhandary and Anand Balu commentators were Habib Ul Nabhi, SK Naidu,Murthy,Imtiyaz,Abdul Salam,Tufail Mateen,Surendra and Zafar Abbasi.

DJ and sound system was provided by Nitesh D.

Niyaz Ahmed, president of KMCA, , Seethram Shetty, president of Tulu Koota Qatar, Divakar Poojary, president of Billawas Qatar, Arvind Patil, Prabhakar and Arun Kumar, former president of KSQ, Ramchandra Shetty former president of Tulu Koota, Asmath Ali Vice president of Tulu Koota, Cricket Association of Qatar and executive committee members and dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Alma Aluminium Qatar & Al-muftah Contracting was the main sponsors of the tournament. Doha Bank, QDC and Petrofac Qatar are associate sponsors of the tournament. The lucky draw gifts were kept for spectators and the famous Royal Udupi Restaurant served the refreshment.
