Bangalore :If the religious leaders do not raise thier voice against Untouchability, Dalits will turn rebellious against the brahmins, said Governor H R Bharadwaj.

He was speaking after inaugurating the charity event and a seminar on Mahatma Gandhi and his contemporary Thinkers, organised at Gandhi Bhavan. Creation of a society based on equality was the aim of Gandhiji. So all the religious leaders and seers should raise thier voice against untouchability.

Further he said that Religious differences were the main reason for the arrival of Buddhists to our nation. Gandhi, Ambedkar and Basavanna have fought against untouchability. Gandhi had spent his life in the area where Harijans lived. Though untouchability has been abolished in our constitution, it is practiced in many places even today. So all the religious leaders should come forward to abolish untouchability. Otherwise there will be fights among ourselves.

India is a country that has unity in diversity. There are many groups within the community as well. There should be equality and social justice whuch is the hope of our democracy. People should not be categorised on the basis of caste, community or religion. Rajiv gandhi wanted to create a caste free society, he said.

Chairman of Gandhi Memorial Fund Dr O Srinivasayya, Professor of medicine Manuchakravarthi, senior journalist Nadoja Dr Pateel Puttappa, Former speaker BG Banakar, Gandhi Peace Foundation president Vude P Krishna, freedom fighter Mailaramahadevappa’s daughter Kasturamma was present on the occasion.
