Water sports at Varuna lake to be developed akin to Kutch Adventure sports

Mysuru: The proposed water adventure sports facility at Varuna Lake by state government will be developed on the lines of Kutch Adventure Sports in Gujarat, said Youth Empowerment and Sports Minister Pramod Madhavaraj.

Speaking after inaugurating adventure sports at Varuna lake organised as part of Dasara festival he said, “In the last budget, the government had sanctioned Rs 5 Crore for water adventure sports at Varuna Lake but we want to develop the project on PPP model so that we can provide more facilities like accommodation for those who come for training, food court and conduct different adventure training. The process for the same has already started. We are planning to set up water adventure sports at Varuna Lake on the lines of Kutch Adventure Sports in Gujarat which includes removable tents.”

Minister enjoys water sport at Varuna Lake:

After inaugurating the adventure sports, the minister not only went around in a speed boat but with the help of a trainer, he also had a Jet Ski ride. “Before coming here, I was feeling sleepy but once I came here it flew away. Really, I enjoyed both the rides especially the Jet Ski was too good.” Rajaneesh Goel, Additional Chief Secretary and Anupam Agarwal, Director of DYES also enjoyed ride in speed boat.

Six different water sports on offering

Those who visit Varuna Lake can come across six different types of water sports which includes thrilling Jet Ski, Banana Ride, speed boat ride, Kayaking, Canoeing and still water rafting. There are different charges for the ride but there is a package called “Gethna package”, where by paying Rs 800, one can have all the six rides. The water sports event will be open for public daily between 9 AM and 6 PM. The ten-day water sports which kickstarted on September 21, will conclude on September 30. The event is organised by the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports in association with General Thimmaiah National Academy.

H J Raghavendra who had come along with his wife Sreeroopa and two children said, “It’s a really good initiative on part of the government. All the water sports will be thrilling experiences.”

-Jet Ski

-Banana Ride

-Speed boat ride

-Kayaking

-Canoeing

-Still water rafting

Date: September 21 to 30

Timings: 9 AM to 6 PM
