Mysuru: Allegations of the Mysore University having routed crores of rupees towards Science Congress convention from funds meant for centenary celebrations received from the state government grants have been making rounds.
It is said that the Vice-Chancellor has provided Rs 9,15,45,862 to the 103rd Indian Science Congress on the consent of the Syndicate from the Mysore University Centenary Celebration Fund of 1916-2016.
A syndicate member has revealed that despite him raising objections, the agenda was approved after all other members consented at the Syndicate meeting.
Higher education department officials have said that grants given to the centenary program cannot be used for other purposes. A complaint has been filed with the Governor and the Higher Education Department about the misuse of money, it is gathered.
However, local Secretary Prof. B N Ramachandra defended the fund diversion by stating that 103rd Indian Science Congress convention is part of the centenary celebration and Rs 18 crore was spent towards science congress convention, of which Rs 14 crore was provided by the Mysore University. The remaining four crore has been received from various agencies.
