Traders using banned plastic to lose license permanently: MCC Commissioner

Mysuru: The license of such traders will be cancelled who are found selling banned plastics, said Jagadeesh, Commissioner, Mysuru City Corporation. To curb use of plastics in Mysuru, the Corporation authorities will take up a drive from Friday.

Mysuru City Corporation to enhance property tax-1On March 11, 2016, the state government had issued an official gazette notification stating a complete and total ban on plastic and all plastics and thermocol products in the state. The notification cites, “No shopkeeper, vendor, wholesale dealer, retailer, trader, hawker or salesman shall use plastic carry bags, plastic banners, plastic buntings, flex , plastic flags, plastic plates, plastic cups, plastic spoons and plastic sheets for spreading on dining table irrespective of thickness including the above items made of thermocol and plastic which use plastic micro breeds.” But even after year of government notification, most of the people are still found using banned plastics.

Speaking to Newskarnataka, Jagadeesh said, “In most of the places, people are still found using banned plastics. Though we have seized them from many shops, it is yet to be completely eradicated. Hence for a complete ban of plastics, we have decided to take stringent action against those found selling plastics. The violators’ trade license will be cancelled permanently. No recommendation or influence will be entertained.”
