Mysuru: Thousands of farmers gheraoed DC’s office for various demands including compensation for crop loss.

The farmers protested in various parts of the city and alleged that their crops were destroyed after water was released to Tamil Nadu from Kabini and Cauvery reservoirs. They demanded Rs 25,000 per acre of crop loss.

Sugarcane Producer’s Association President Kuruburu Shantha Kumar alleged that the chief minister and the district-in-charge minister had failed to respond to their problems. If they continued to ignore, protests would be intensified, he warned.

Farmers also urged the government to drop cases against those farmers who had protested during Kabini and Cauvery water issue. Other demands included restarting Shrirama Co-operative Sugar factory with a grant of Rs 30 Crore and power supply for 10 hours a day for the agricultural purposes.
