Mysuru: People coming to Dasara have more to cherish, here comes the time again to enjoy and learn about the Art and Craft fairs of India. Craft artisans from across the country are coming together to create an impressive lineup of unique pieces for the DASARA Fest ‘Gandhi Shilp Bazaar’ organized by the Development Commissioner( Handicrafts) Ministry of Textiles , Government of India, New Delhi in association with Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited, Bengaluru at JSS Urban Haat in Hebbal from September 29 to October 9.

Craftsmen who are National and State awardees will present live demonstrations in Art and Craft making and will display Kasuthi sarees, Tussar silk sarees, Kantha stitch sarees, Banaras sarees and dress materials, boutique sarees and dresses and Bengali cotton sarees. They will also display Kashmiri handlooms, wood carving and furniture from Saharanpur, wood inlay, chicken embroidery, modern art murals, ceramics, Madhubani paintings, Rajasthani miniature paintings, Rajasthani embroidery and footwear, Gujarati dresses, dried flowers, a variety of leather items, various jute products, vegetable print dress materials, artificial and imitation jewellery and gemstone jewellery. Marble paintings, Karnataka silk sarees, Chennapattan toys and plenty of terracotta items among other handicraft and handlooms items will also be displayed. Gandhi Shilp Bazaar is a shopper’s paradise which gives a clear picture of Indian art and culture to the visitors.

Some craftsmen use a combination of distinctive glazes, patterns and crafted pottery in their pieces, while others create functional and decorative pieces by hand-carving. The intricate designs, which are a product of these techniques, would be showcased in their display. In addition to this, woodwork pieces claim honourable mention with artisans creating visually mesmerising items. They choose pieces of wood specifically for their colour and grain and cut these into a pattern. Each of these creates a realistic vision of things found in nature.

The event will be inaugurated by Mayor B.L Bhyrappa at 4pm (date?). Pratap Simha , Member of Parliament, G.T Devegowda MLA, Camundeshwari Constituency , G Jagadish, Commissioner , Mysuru City Corporation , P. Mallikarjunaiah , Regional Director ,Ministry of textiles, Govt of India, Southern Region , Chennai, B Venkatesh ,IFS , Managing Director KSHDCL, Bengaluru , and V.Varalakshmi, Director, KSHDCL will also be present. There is no entry and parking fee. The mela will be kept open daily between 10am and 9pm.
