Mysuru: The annual state level Dasara sports meet will be held at Chamundi Vihar stadium from September 21 to 24. More than 4500 participants from across the state are expected to take part in various events. Indian cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy will inaugurate the event while Sports Minister Pramodh Madhwaraj will be the chief guest.

During the four-day event, the participants, both men and women will be taking part in 20 different events which includes gymnastics, volleyball, kabaddi, hockey, kho kho, badminton, basketball, hand ball, table tennis, tennis, football, ball badminton, swimming, throw ball, net ball, chess and body building. Apart from football which will be held at the University of Mysore football ground, most of the sporting events including all the athletic events will be conducted at Chamundi Vihar stadium.

Those who secure first three places in the individual events will get gold, silver and bronze medals apart cash prize of Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 1500 while in the group events, members of each winning team will get Rs 3000 cash prize while those who secure second and third place will take home Rs 1500 and Rs 1000 respectively. For those who create new meet record in the meet, the committee will be presenting a cash award of Rs 10,000 (for each record).

Though District Minister H C Mahadevappa had instructed the Dasara Committee to give fillip to Dasara sports by conducting few all India level competitions, the latter has failed to conduct the same. The reason they are giving is that the participating teams should be intimated six months well in advance. Though there is no rule like that, it seems like the committee is not interested in conducting all India level competitions.
