Mysore: Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of Youth Service and Sports is mulling over giving a new look and recognition for the state-level Dasara Sports. An initiative in this regard was taken based on the request put forward by several sportspersons to recognize the event, which is being held as a festival event for the past many decades.
State-level Dasara sport which is being conducted by the government for the past many years, is just a festival event. While many view participating in the event as a prestigious issue, the Dasara sport has no recognition and the certificate has no value. If the event is recognized; the participants will have more advantage and recognition. Apart from all these their efforts will not go waste as their certificates will have more value. Every year hundreds of participants from across the state take part in the competition. The government, on the other hand, to provide best possible facilities to the participants and cash award to the winners, spends lakhs of rupees.
Speaking to Newskarnataka Pramod Madhwaraj said “Sports persons have requested us to recognize the event. Based on their request we have started to work on this line. We will try to do our level best to see that the annual state level dasara sports will get further fillip in days to come. To recognize the event, we are preparing a proposal”.
Thippavva Sannakki, national athlete who is working in South Western Railway, Mysuru division said “Many people participating in state-level Dasara sports start practicing few months prior to the event. If the event gets recognition, the effort of these sports persons will not go waste. As of now the certificates have no value, but it’s a great pride for many sports persons to take part in the Dasara sports. Once dasara sport is recognized, we can also expect further more quality participation”.
