Mysuru: In a rare transaction, the Vijayanagar branch of State bank of India (SBI) received a cheque for 5 paise to close customer’s credit card account.

Customer Satish had taken an SBI credit card 5-years-ago by depositing Rs 25000. After the card tenure ended he wanted to close the account without opting for renewal during his visit to the branch on March 18. To his surprise, bank staff showed a debit balance of 5 paise and insisted on payment. Initially customer Satish considered the request for payment by bank staff as a joke but when the bank staff insisted, he ran out of ideas. He expressed his inability to pay 5 paise as it was not in circulation anymore.

When bank staff refused to close the account without payment of dues, Satish ultimately paid 5 paise using cheque to get rid of debit card account for good. Customer Satish lost Rs 3 in the process towards bank transaction fee!
