Mysuru: An engineering student who secretly married a bus driver, much against the wishes of his family is now battling for life after she immolated herself, in front of her father, outside Chamarajanagar bus station.
Rakshitha, daughter of Ramkrishne Gowda, a clerk in J S Engineering College in Mysuru is the victim. She was pursuing third year computer engineering in Chamarajanagar.
Rakshitha used to travel to college everyday in KSRTC bus from Mysuru to Chamarajanagar and thus she got acquainted to bus driver Srinivas. Soon, Srinivas managed to convince the young girl that he was madly in love with her and the two got married four-months-ago secretly.
Since Srinivas's parents had objected to the wedding, the two had started living separately in Chamarajanagar.
But on Wednesday, Rakshitha suddenly decided to visit her in-laws in Chamarajanagar and her father accompanied her. On reaching the house of her in-laws, Rakshitha and her father were insulted and were made to stay out of the house the whole day. To add to it, the two were also assaulted by Srinivas's family, it is said.
On Thursday morning, when Ramakrishne Gowda got his daughter back, he made her wait near Chamarajanagar bus station. But, by the time he could be back, Rakshitha had set herself ablaze. In this suicide bid, Rakshitha has suffered 75 per cent burns and is now battling for life in KR Hospital.
