Mysuru: Heavy rains lashing over Wayanad in Kerala has led to increased inflow of water in Kabini dam. Since there are all possibilities of the dam authorities deciding to release water from the dam, the people living in the low lying areas near the dam have been asked to evacuate and move to safer pockets.

The Kabini dam at Beechanahalli of HD Kote, which has a total capacity to hold 84 inch of water is short only by an inch to reach its fill capacity. At present 15 cusec is being released, but since there are weather reports that Kerala will receive more rains in next three to four days, Chief Engineer D Manjunath has said that more water will be released from the dam anytime, affecting people living in low lying areas.

Further, during Dasara, CM Siddaramaiah too is expected to visit the dam to if we’re ‘bagina’.
