Mysuru: Railway authorities have been thinking over a Private-Public Participation (PPP) model for setting up Satellite Terminal Station at Kadakola. The Railways is ready to join hands with developers and promoters who are willing to develop the station with commercial establishments, malls and multiplexes in the same station complex.
As per sources, the aspirations of the Mysureans to have more trains between Bengaluru and Mysuru has been damped due to terminal constrains. Though the the doubling of the track between Bengaluru and Mysuru was completed one year ago, no new trains were introduced due to this reason and now it is said that additional trains can be operated only after setting up of another terminal station, which is proposed at Kadakola, 15 kms from the city at the cost of Rs 65 crore. The Mysuru railway station is landlocked and there is no scope for expansion. Hence, there is an urgent need for an alternative satellite terminal station for Mysuru to handle the projected additional traffic. Keeping this in mind Mysuru division railway authorities sent the proposal of Rs 65 crore to head office in Hubballi who in turn sent the same to railway board for approval. The proposed Satellite Terminal Station at Kadakola will have six platforms, rake facility, water and maintenance facility and other such facilities. As of now all these have been done at Mysuru Railway Station itself.
Atul Gupta, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru division, South Western Railway said “We are contemplting on PPP model. Kadakola station can be developed as a mall and also as modern railway station with upper floor for mall and multiplex theatre.”
He also mentioned that for the forthcoming budget, the division has proposed certain works including the major one that is sanctioning of satellite terminal station at Kadakola.
Once the satellite terminal station becomes reality it will not only decongest Mysuru Railway Station but also earn good revenue for railways. As the station is on the way to Bandipur, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, every day thousands of tourists who pass on this stretch can also make use of the facility at Kadakola Railway Station.
