Mysuru: A unique programme “Shalegalalli Sangeetha” (music in schools: singing of textbook poems) by the state government was launched as a pilot project at Government Primary and High School in Rajendranagar here on Monday.
Till now the school and pre-university college students in the district used to sing poems in their textbooks as taught by their teachers. But henceforth, professional singers will visit schools in all taluks and guide students on singing. The programme was inaugurated by H A Venkatesh, Chairman of Mylac, which will travel in all the taluks of Mysuru district to popularise music among students. Nearly 25 singers have been divided into eight teams who will travel across the district in two groups — “Kaveriyana” and ‘Kapilayana.” The programme, which will end on February 14, will be held for an hour every day at each selected school. The artistes will be picked up from Kalamandira and dropped at the same venue every day.
As part of the inaugural day, the students at the Government Primary and High School at Rajendranagar were treated to melodious songs.
