Mysuru: Mystery shrouds the death of 14-year-old Harsha, who died two days after he suffered burns on an open land at Belvatagrama in Mysuru after he ventured there to answer nature’s call.

Though it was earlier said that the open land was being used as an illegal dumping yard by some companies to dispose off its chemical wastes, the theory has now been rejected as the Geological experts say that a major geological phenomenon has caused the death.

It is said that the temperature of the spot where Harsha, a student of Naganahalli Govt School and resident of Syadanahalli suffered injuries is over 120 degrees and fire was spotted in the land during the day.

On Friday evening, Harsha and his friend Manoj went into the empty plot to attend nature’s call. The plot belonged to Somanna, a resident of Kumbara Koppal in Mysuru. Within no time, Harsha remained stuck in the loose soil in the plot, while Manoj managed to escape and raise alarm. Since it was dark, Manoj failed to recognise what may have been the reason that put Harsha in threat. But, by the time people could come to Harsha’s rescue, lower part of his body was burnt. Harsha was rushed to KR Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries on Sunday after battling for life for two days.

As the news of Harsha’s death spread raged locals came together to express their anger against several companies functioning in the area. Apart from currency printing unit of the RBI, several other industries are functioning in the area and as per locals, the unexpected tragedy has its connection to these industries.

Deputy Commissioner Randeep and District in-charge Minister Mahadevaprasad have inspected the spot and called in experts to analyse the issue.

As of now, the district administration is stating that there is a strong underlying geological reason behind what is going on at the spot.
