Mysuru: The Dasara wrestling competition witnessed an ugly episode of one of the wrestlers whirling in pain for about two hours after a punch, due to lack of medical assistance at the D Devaraj Urs Multipurpose Wrestling Stadium, on September 24.
The incident held mirror to the poor arrangement of the event, which was participated by over 1000 wrestlers from the state as well as other parts of the country. Despite wrestling being one of the precarious games, the organisers had not kept ambulance and doctors ready at the spot.
On Sunday, Mohommed Akmal suffered left hand cramp after a bout with his opponent Sachin. When he requested the organisers to call a doctor, there was no one to help him out. All that the organisers did was to summon the Health Department. To their dismay the department officials did not respond!
Finally, after two and half long hour wait, Akmal was sent to KR Hospital in an ambulance.
Mohammad Akmal from Mysuru who has won district dasara title for couple of times said that it was unfortunate that the organisers skipped upon such an important aspect.
“it is a norm to have medical assistance in place at least half and hour before the game begins. Most injuries during wrestling are life threatening, if medical assistance is not provide on time. I request the organisers to take the issue seriously and plan the games well before organising them,” he said.
