Mysuru: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, through video link from Yeshvantpur railway station launched the passenger subway, heavy duty two passenger lifts and Wi-Fi facility at Mysuru railway station on Sunday.
The subway will bring relief to commuters who carry heavy luggage across the foot overbridge which is at a height of over 6.5 mtrs. Due to increase in number of passengers every day, the passengers were finding it difficult to pass on the present narrow foot overbridge. The work on the 64.42 metre subway connecting the entire six platforms began more than a year ago at the cost of Rs 7 crore. The subway is six metres wide and 3.35mtres in height. The unique feature of this subway is that it is in a ramp form, doing away with the staircase, making it convenient to passengers to pull up their luggage.
To make subway more attractive and to promote flavor of local culture and tourist places in Mysuru, Atul Gupta, DRM, Mysuru division, SWR with the help of CAVA artists managed to get some paintings on the entrance of the subway.
After Bengaluru and Yesvanthpur Railway Station, Mysuru is the third railway station in Karnataka to get lift facilities. There are two lift facilities one each between platform 2 and 3 and other one between 4 and 5 with each capacity of 20 people (1360kg) built at the cost of Rs 35 lakh each.
