Mysuru: Mysuru-Kodagu Member of Parliament (MP) Pratap Simha sought the state government’s support for various developmental activities in his Mysuru-Kodagu MP constituency. Addressing press persons after releasing a progress report of the constituency in one year of the BJP’s tenure at the centre here on Tuesday, the MP said, unless the state government extends its support, it is not possible for the central government to take up any developmental activities.
He said that thought he could not achieve the 100% target, but he has made sincere efforts to do justice to his position.” I was new to Mysuru-Kodagu constituency and thus it took long time to understand the problems of my constituency” he added.
Briefing on various developmental projects, he said during one-year, the Central Government has taken up several developmental projects in Mysuru and Kodagu.
The government has resolved issues related to the renewal of Tobacco growers license, announced a Rs 9 crore coffee package for root rot and stem borer disease in coffee plantations and also allotted funds to establish a Textile Mega Cluster in Srirampura in Mysuru.
More land required for extension of Runway
“It is necessary to extend the Mysuru airport to restart operation. Private players will not fly aircraft on a regular basis due to certain reasons. To operate Air India flights, we need to extend run way, as their aircraft are big compared to aircraft operated by private players”, he said. He said the BJP wants to name Mysuru airport after Nalwadi Krishna Raja Wadiyar.
He urged state government to provide required lands to expand runway. The state government holds all the power to acquire lands, if state government provides needed lands, then runway will be expanded, he said, adding that Mysuru receives more than 32 lakh tourists every year and transport facilities should be improved. He said that efforts will be made to set-up permanent Pas Port Seva Kendra in Mysuru.
Doubling of railway track will be completed by December
The ongoing railway track doubling between Mysuru and Bengaluru will be completed by December end. Works for relocation of Tippu’s Armory in Srirangapatna is on progress. Tenders have been called for the same.
“People speak about bullet train and speed train which will be implemented in Chennai and Bengaluru but we had kept proposal to expand it to Mysuru but due to lot of curves we are unable to bring it but after the completion of Tippu Armoury we are going to run a train which goes at 160km/hr.
The road from Bengaluru to Mysuru has nearly 83 speed breakers and this take lot of time to travel so speaking with central government we have planned to construct 6 lane roads soon”, he added
100th birth anniversary of D. Devaraja Urs
The 100th birth anniversary of D Devaraja Urs who had contributed enormously towards the development of state and Mysuru will be celebrated in 2015 and the University of Mysore is celebrating its centenary year. An IIT must be established in the Mysuru region to mark these two auspicious occasions, the MP said. He also sought the support of Chief minister Siddaramaiah, district minister V Srinivas Prasad and other ministers from the region for this.
No ban on tobacco cultivation
The MP assured that till the government finds alternative crops to replace Tobacco, no ban will be imposed, the MP assured. “Lakhs of farmers are dependent on Tobacco cultivation, and even the government is trying to identify a suitable alternative crop”, he added
