MPVL busy churning out indelible ink for five-state polls

Mysuru: The Mysore Paints and Varnish limited (MVPL) has a big role to play in the five-state polls scheduled to be held next month. The production unit is busy churning out the indelible ink used for polling and for the upcoming polls, the company has to produce lakhs of bottles of ink for the Election Commission.Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand are running into polls during February-March and in this regard the Election Commission had placed an order for the ink three months ago. A total of 50 permanent workers and over 100 outsourced employees are working in two shifts to meet the order.

Out of the placed order 4,000 bottles of 10 ml for Goa, 52,000 bottles of 10 ml for Punjab and 7300 bottles of the said quantity to Manipur have been produced already. As far as Uttar Pradesh is concerned, the polls will be held in seven phases from February 11 to March 8 and an order of 6.60 lac bottles were placed, out of which 3.30 lac bottles were dispatched earlier, followed by one lakh bottles on January 16. The balance 2.30 lac bottles will be sent by January 24. Another batch of 25,000 bottles of the ink for Uttarakhand will be completed soon, said Company President H A Venkatesh adding that one bottle of 10 ml of indelible ink costs Rs 142. The same bottle can ink 750 people.

The company which has been producing the indelible ink over the last several years for elections, for the first in its history produce ink for non-election purpose after demonestisation of currency took place in India. Banks used the indelible ink to mark the customers thronging banks to exchange and deposite their notes to avoid repetitive customers.
