Mysuru: Dry weather spell in the region seems to have dealt a death blow to many wild predators in forest reserves of the state with first such case due to suspected starvation reported in Chunchanahalli mini forest of Nanjanagud taluk.
The carcass of a leopard was found in the region and reports suggest that the wild cat might have died of fatigue after it failed to find prey and water even after extensive search. The five-year-old leopard’s body was found near a stream flowing downhill on the edges of Chunchanahalli village.
The carcass was first noticed by some villagers grazing cattle, who later informed the forest officials,
According to Range Forest Official Shashikumar, in charge of this forest sub-division, only after receipt of the post mortem report the exact cause of death will be known.
