Mysuru/Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Open University will not be shut down under any circumstances as reported in certain sections of the media, reassured Union Minister for Human Resources and Development Prakash Javadekar.
The proposal to shut down KSOU is not in the agenda of the central government which too is concerned about the future of 3.5 lakh students, said Javdekar giving a huge relief to the students in quandary.
His reassurance came with a rider as the minister said the UGC report was vital for settling the issue. Financial scam to the tune of Rs 580 Crore has taken place in the university and the internal audit report too is ridden with confusion, said Javadekar. The four pronged investigation is in progress and the UGC will submit a final report to the government based on which action against errant officials will be taken, Javadekar stated.
A delegation comprising staff and students led by KSOU Vice Chancellor Prof. D Shivalingaiah had submitted a plea to the union HRD minister to clear the air surrounding the pending issue.
