Mysuru: If the state complies with Supreme Court order by releasing 2000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu, Mysureans will face acute shortage of drinking water, said Mayor M J Ravi Kumar.

“As of now there is enough water to supply to the city. There will be no problem for drinking water for two months but the it will arise only if water is released to Tamil Nadu. Hence, keeping the interest of people of Mysuru in particular and people of Karnataka in general, the state government should take appropriate decision”, added Ravi Kumar.

He also mentioned that wherever there are drinking water issues, it was provided through tankers. “To some of the areas, we are providing drinking water through 25 tankers and we have kept 25 more in reserve. In case of any complaint of drinking water, the standby tankers will be pressed into service immediately. Apart from this, there are nearly 2000 borewells which come under the corporation. To maintain these borewells every month we are spending Rs 10,000. Apart from this, some of the borewells have become dry and defunct. Hence it is also the responsibility of the people to use water judiciously”. For Mysuru city, KRS and Kabini reservoirs are two main sources of drinking water.
