Heavy rains: Corporation officials denied leave for next three days

Mysuru: In view of the incessant rains for the past couple of days and heavy showers predicted for the next three days, the Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner G Jagadeesha has given instructions to all his staff members to not take any leave till the situation gets back to normal.

According to Bengaluru’s University of Agricultural Sciences, heavy rains are expected in the next three days and it will be more than what was received for the past couple of days.

Keeping this in mind, Jagadeesha instructed all the staff members of corporation including Assistant Commissioner, Development Officer and engineers not to go out of station as well. The corporation authorities led by Jagadeesha, to know the ground reality are doing frequent rounds across the city. Public who come across any problem can call control room at 2440891 which will be operational round the clock.

Speaking to Newskarnataka, Jagadeesha said, “For the past couple of days, though there is rain it has not caused major damage. Apart from few drainage issues and uprooting of nearly 10 trees there was no major damage. The staff has been told to be on toes and be ready round the clock to meet any eventuality. We have an emergency team called ‘Abhaya Team.’ As soon as they receive complaint they rush to the spot. We have three such teams each comprising 24 members. In the last two days, Abhaya Team has attended more than 20 cases.

“Apart from the above, for every ward we have given five additional staff members who will take up the cleaning works which includes that of drainage. We have also visited low lying areas and also few places which may get affected if there is heavy rain. As of now there is no serious problem”, added Jagadeesha. The health officers are also on toes to meet emergencies.

According to weather forecast, heavy rains measuring 45 mm are expected in the next three days (Aug 17 to 19) which is more than what was received in the last three days. On August 15 and 16, Mysuru received 20 mm and 32.4 mm rainfall.
