Mysuru: For the last three years, the state government has not only enhanced financial assistance to various NGOs, including those looking after differently abled children/people and old age home but has also been conducting various programs, especially for senior citizens, as stated by the Women and Child Welfare Minister, Umashree.
Speaking after inaugurating ‘Mythri Mahotsava’ and releasing a book titled ‘Vishaya Onde, Okkane Bere’ authored by the founder of Mythri School for Specially Abled organized by Mythri School for Specially-Abled at Rani Bahadur Auditorium here on Sunday, she said “Normal children attain maturity as they age but differently-abled children remain children from birth until the end. Looking after differently abled children is a really great challenge. And if the teachers who train these children were not there, we can only think about the plight of them. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is also giving more importance to the physically challenged, disabled and senior citizens. She also appreciated Venkoba Rao’s interest and concern towards special children and running the institution for the last 35 years.
Abandoned Senior citizens
She aptly showed her concern towards senior citizens when she stated, “We have taken a couple of cases where the sons abandon their parents. And after taking up these cases, we managed to send these parents back home. Due to such welfare programs towards differently abled, physically challenged and senior citizens, this year we have managed to get a few awards.
Awards galore
We got the ‘National award for disabled department’ which will be given on October 1, for various welfare program towards senior citizens, including setting up a helpline for them in all the districts. We have also got “Best Implementation of various programs for senior citizens award” which is also called the “Best Senior Citizen award” to H Srinivasaiah, Chairman of Gandhi Bhavan and there is also a possibility of the department getting one more award for setting up a research centre for senior citizens at NIMHANs. The centre which is the first of its kind in India was opened for improving their social and economic status.
Special children enthralled the packed auditorium
The packed audience including the minister was taken aback after seeing the talent of these special children. The team comprising of nearly 10 to 15 children presented a dance which was well appreciated by one and all.
The founder of Mythri School for Specially Abled Venkoba Rao, MLA Vasu, Ravindra Prasa of Art of Living, Chennakeshava of Marlabs, Prithvi Surindar of Mythri Trust Managing Trustee, CS Anil Kumar of Treasurer, and Ravindra Joshi, the President were also present.
