Mysuru: India’s PSLV may have taken off with 104 satellites to the space, but, the social issues of this land simply do not seem to change. In a tragic incident, a man ended life in a police station fearing social ostracism by the village head.
The deceased Siddanayaka of Thondavadi at Gundlupet of Chamarajanagar had got into trouble over a trivial reason, following which the head of the village had imposed Rs 50,000 as penalty on him. When poor Siddanayaka failed to pay the penalty he was subjected to a series of shameful incidents. Then, the village head had threatened him of ostracism.
Humiliated and threatened, his want for justice and the desire to change his reality had brought Siddanayaka to Beguru police. But, after narrating his ordeal, Siddanayaka had to return empty-handed as the police too could not help him. Knowing that life thereafter was going to get tougher, Siddanayaka consumed poison in the police station premises and killed himself.
Though he was rushed to a hospital he could not be saved.
