H D Kote: Farmers in and around the catchment areas of Kabini reservoir are crying foul over release of water from Kabini reservoir.
They alleged that despite the water levels in the dam remaining at 60 feet, authorities have started releasing water to favour a private power generation company.
The water inflow has increased in the dam in the recent past due to incessant rains in Wyanad region of Kerala. The maximum storage level is 84 feet in the reservoir near Beechanahalli and farmers feel the decision to release water will affect them in the long run. They feel the water eventually flows to Tamilnadu, depriving them of their share.
