Mysuru: Once the ongoing electrification works get completed the travel time between Mysuru and Bengaluru will reduce by 10-15 minutes.
The electrification works delayed due to shifting of Tipu’s armoury is likely to be completed by October 15 with the final inspection scheduled around that time by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS).
Once CRS gives the green signal, the travel time on Shatabdi Express between Bengaluru–Mysuru will reduce by 15 minutes, opine experts. The electrification works are almost complete except for the 1.5 km stretch near Srirangapatna, delayed due to the translocation of armoury.
Trains run on electric tracks from Chennai to Bengaluru, at present. Then the electric locomotive is detached to be replaced by a diesel locomotive because of the pending electric works around Srirangapatna. The electrification of the entire stretch will eliminate this process and save time.
The electrification will be initially tried in Shatabdi Express to begin with, and subsequently extended to other trains, say railway officials. At present, Shatabdi takes 2 hours to reach Mysuru from Bengaluru on a high traffic density track.
