Mysuru: The record breaking event which was held in Mysuru will be brought to the notice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the cabinet meeting on June 22 and a call taken to allocate more grams to Mysuru for International Yoga Day celebration, said Union Minister Sadananda Gowda.

Sadananda Gowda who took part in the attempt to enter Guinness Book of World Records for the biggest yoga demonstration in a single venue as part of International Yoga Day at Mysore Race Course here on Wednesday said, “It was outstanding an programme organised in Mysuru by district administration. Keeping the interest of health of the people, three years ago Narendra Modi introduced International Yoga Day. Now more than 199 countries including China, England and America have taken up Yoga very seriously.

“Due to overwhelming response and good conduction of mega event by district administration, I will try to bring this to the notice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and try to enhance the budget allocation to Mysuru from existing Rs 45 Lakh to Rs 1 Crore. Once the people start doing Yoga, the expenditure to the tune of thousands of crores to health department will be lessened. Hence spending couple of crores on Yoga is not a problem” added Sadananda Gowda.

Political intervention and religious supremacy should not happen

District Minister H C Mahadevappa who also spoke on the occasion said, “Yoga which helps in keeping health in good shape and also overcoming stress and strain should go on but there should be no political intervention and religious supremacy. Without mixing politics and without establishing religious supremacy we should allow people to participate and practice Yoga.”

‘Unlike for Delhi record no consultant procured spending crores’

Deputy Commissioner D Randeep who took initiative to conduct two record breaking events in Mysuru said, “Our target was 40,000 but 54,101 persons took part in the event which is really a fantastic turnout. It is an unprecedented turnout in the history of Mysuru for Yoga. It shows that the spirit of Mysuru people is really high. The event was conducted with minimum local support and no special people were inducted which was not the same in Delhi where a private consultant was procured by paying couple of crores of rupees. For smooth conduct of the event in Mysuru, we had formed 30 committees and held 25 meetings. In days to come will try to promote Yoga by taking it to schools and informing the foreign tourists more about it.

With this event, returns are something intangible. People not only across the state but also in many other states will be speaking about Mysuru and naturally the brand Mysuru will also improve which in turn will improve tourism and economy here. Through this event, the long term benefit is more”, added Randeep. On the occasion, he also mentioned that publicity for the forthcoming Dasara event will start from July itself.

Shylaja Srikanth, who was consultant for the event said, “People of Mysuru who had gathered in large numbers proved why Mysuru city is called ‘City or Hub of Yoga’. Technically we have done well and have great chance to create a new record.”
