Mysuru: DG Rao, Principal of Regional Institute Education (RIE) took additional charge as Director of Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) on Thursday, August 25.
Soon after taking charge he interacted with the staff members. During an hour long discussion, it came to light that the institute is facing lot of problems including lack of permanent staff members. The annual budget allocation for the institute is Rs 30 crore, but there is no accounts officer from the past many months. Rao mentioned that his priority is to try to fill up as many as vacant posts.
Rao said, “During the meeting with the staff members, I came to know about various issues. I will take care of the things and will pursue the matter with Ministry of HRD. All the academic program and schemes should run effectively for the benefit of the nation. When we are thinking of national education policy, unless we academically strengthen the institute, we can’t cater to needs of the country. On top priority basis, I will try to fill up the vacant posts at the earliest”.
Issues were avoided
Surprisingly, the senior officials were not letting the fellow staff members to tell the issues to Rao. During the meeting, various problems and issues including the long pending demand of permanent staff members, both academic and administrative staff came to light. It was also revealed that for 22 cameras, there was just one permanent staff to handle them and the department is four steps beyond the present technology. Most of the regional centres are not having a principal. If one keeps digging, problems are plenty at CIIL. It will be a challenging task for Rao to take the institute to a new height. Senior academician, reader and researcher Ramamurthy, who welcomed DG Rao also mentioned that the institute which lacks adequate staff members is having just six academic staff members and 23 administrative staff members.
It can be brought to light that lady Professor Sangeetha Saikia had accused CIIL director Professor Avdesh Kumar Mishra of emotionally harassing her by forcing her to involve in sexual act and making repeated provocative phone calls using foul language since 2013. The director had sought anticipatory bail fearing arrest by police who acted upon the lady professor’s complaint. After his bail was rejected by the lower court, the director has moved to the High Court in Bengaluru seeking anticipatory bail. Now Avdesh Mishra has been transferred to English and Foreign Language University, Hyderabad.
