Mysuru: An engineer and a first division clerk attached to the horticulture department in Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) landed in the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) net for demanding bribe in fresh currency notes.

A contractor named Rajesh won the Rs 10.45 Lakh bid for the development of a park in Ward no 48 of MCC and had completed the works 7 months ago. He had submitted the bills to Raghavendra, an engineer working in the horticulture department and his assistant Puttaswamy, a first division clerk. But the engineer and the clerk together had demanded Rs 70000 bribe in fresh currency notes with Rs 35000 as the first installment.

Fed up with the developments, Rajesh explained his plight to the senior officials in the department but those efforts did not bear fruit. Finally Rajesh lodged a complaint with ACB.

Based on the complaint, ACB sleuths instructed Rajesh to deliver Rs 35000 cash to those who demanded the bribe. While collecting the amount both were caught red-handed.

ACB officials verified the residential and office records of the nabbed persons till late evening. They were produced in the court and later sent to jail.
